The times might be a-changin’, but that doesn’t mean retail banking industry players’ communication strategies are.

Indeed, one in three companies don’t communicate with their customers through their mobile devices, found the 2010 Retail Banking Study, commissioned by outbound communications provider Varolii Corp. The study surveyed more than 450 retail banking execs on their communication strategies. Other interesting nuggets from the survey include:

* Direct mail (29%) and manual phone calls (22%) were the most frequently used communication channels;
* Social media is still under the radar, with more than 50% of respondents opting not to use the online communication channel. What’s more, only 35% responded that they see social media strategies in their futures; and
* More than 50% of respondents reported they do not capture customer preference data.

The survey, which was jointly developed by Varolii, Sourcemedia, and Lodestar, was conducted between Sept. 15 and Oct. 4. Respondents included American Banker, Bank Technology News and US Banker subscribers.
