The innovative Polish direct bank mBank is partnering with Poland’s largest telecommunications company, Orange Polska, for which it will provide white-label banking services.

MBank was launched in 2000 and is now the third-largest retail bank in Poland. The company received a 2014 Bank Innovation Award for its superior mobile banking experience, which incorporates video banking, social media tie-ins, and a clean and contemporary aesthetic.

The joint offering, which was announced yesterday, will be marketed by Orange Polska to serve tablet and smartphone users. The offering will be marketed to both consumers and small to medium businesses.

“When a truly mobile bank and the biggest Polish telecommunications company join their forces to create a new platform, it has to be considered a clear sign of changes that are taking place on the financial services market,  said Cezary Stypułkowski, the CEO of mBank. “mBank will be consistently developing its mobile banking services, both under own brand and through cooperation with Orange Polska.”

American telcos are inching into financial services as well, with T-Mobile recently introducing its own prepaid card, with funds held at The Bancorp.

MBank serves about 4 million customers, just over 10% of Poland’s population.
