Movers and Shakers: Truist gets new investment banking head, Jack Henry hires new sales lead

City National Bank and First Internet Bancorp also announced senior level executive appointments in June

First Internet Bancorp, Truist Securities and City National Bank were among the financial institutions that announced fresh hires and shuffled executives this month:

City National Bank taps Montanez for private banking

City National Bank, a subsidiary of Toronto-based Royal Bank of Canada, has hired Abel Montanez to lead the bank’s private banking businesses. Montanez joined the $83.4 billion City National from, where he spent 14 years. In his most recent role at Wells Fargo, he oversaw the Los Angeles market as regional managing director. Wells Fargo, where he spent 14 years. As the head of City National’s private banking division, Montanez leads the bank’s strategy and growth in existing and new communities.

Abel “is a leader who understands the importance of keeping the client at the center of every decision. This approach aligns well with City National’s goals of delivering clients a personalized banking experience and providing a level of service that is unmatched in the industry,” City National Bank CEO Kelly Coffey said in a statement on the appointment.

Carter to lead investment banking at Truist

Truist Securities, a provider of corporate and investment banking services, has hired Michael Carter to lead its offerings in the sector. Carter joins Truist after a stint at RBC Capital Markets, where he most recently served as global head of technology investment banking.

Carter has more than 25 years of experience in investment banking, with specific expertise in cross border M&A, Truist said in a statement.

“Michael is highly respected in the finance community and a high-caliber professional well-suited to leading our continuously expanding corporate and investment banking team,” said Tom Hackett, president and chief operating officer at Truist Securities.

Lorch ascends at First Internet Bancorp

Nicole Lorch has been appointed president and chief operating officer of the $4.2 billion bank holding company First Internet Bancorp and its subsidiary, First Internet Bank. Lorch has been with First Internet Bank since its February 1999 launch, and most recently served as executive vice president and chief operating officer.

“I am fortunate to be surrounded by a talented group of professionals who are truly dedicated to our customers, each other and the overall success of the organization,” Lorch said in a statement. “I look forward to working with our leadership team and the Board to deliver strong performance and value for our stakeholders.”

King heads sales and marketing at Jack Henry

Banking technology provider Jack Henry has hired Chris King to lead its sales and marketing teams following the retirement of Steve Tomson.

Prior to joining Jack Henry, King served as vice president of the global financial sales channel for banking technology provider NCR. King previously held leadership roles at financial services organizations Diebold Nixdorf, Carreker (now FISERV), and Regions Bank.

“Chris brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our corporate leadership team, and we are looking forward to him driving our sales and marketing efforts to new heights,” said David Foss, president and CEO at Jack Henry.

JPMorgan brings in Elfring for investment banking

JPMorgan Chase has hired former Bank of America executive Bob Elfring to lead investment banking in EMEA, Reuters reported this month, citing an internal memo.

Elfring led corporate and investment banking across EMEA for Bank of America between 2012 and 2018, according to the memo seen by Reuters. At the $3 trillion JPMorgan, he will report to the bank’s co-heads for EMEA investment banking, Dorothee Blessing and Conor Hillery.
