XYVerify uses data from cellphone towers to determine a user’s location and determine if it is in an approved area — inside the store registering the sale or inside the customer’s home, for example — in order to approve or deny a transaction. Does it sound like an invasion of your privacy? Not to sound like Eric Schmidt, but, er, you have no privacy. The application is set to premiere in casinos, where location is sensitive enough to place a user within a structure. Its use of tower data, rather than handset data, ups the security and reliability factor.
