Eagle Home Mortgage, Blend launch mobile app for loan officers

Eagle Home Mortgage is moving its loan application process to a mobile format through a new tool from the digital loan application company Blend.

Customers and loan officers can work on mortgage applications from the Eagle Home Mortgage app.

The app, Blend Loan Officer, was launched this month. It allows Eagle loan officers to work with customers, guiding them through loan applications on smartphones. Eagle Home Mortgage is the financial services arm of Lennar Corporation, a publicly traded homebuilding company that brought in $20.6 billion in 2018.

“Our customers will often submit documents on the platform and call the loan officer to ask if they received the documents and [assess] if they’re accurate,” said Yianni Garcia, vice president of marketing and innovation at Eagle Home Mortgage. “The loan officer can very easily pull out their phone, verify the documents were received and provide the customer with peace of mind.”

According to Garcia, Eagle loan officers are always in the field meeting with new and prospective customers at homebuilding sites. The new app helps loan officers encourage potential customers to get started on an application as soon as they meet, whereas loan officers previously had to vet documents at their desks.

Eagle said this cuts down on delays and friction in the application process.

With the app, Eagle loan officers can see who is applying for a loan and where they are in the process. Agents can communicate with customers via text or email, and customers can also receive updates on their application status directly within the app.

If customers submit income-verification documents, house prices and basic identifying information, loan officers can qualify borrowers in the app. Greg Lou, product lead at Blend, noted that the ability to contact customers from the app helps customers navigate the application process if they get stuck.

While branded as an Eagle Home Mortgage app, the app was developed by Blend and uses its technology. Blend’s platform is used by such financial institutions as Wells Fargo, BMO Harris and Navy Federal Credit Union. The company raised $130 million in June and recently expanded its tool kit beyond mortgages into other retail banking products.
