The Super Bowl, the only time in the year that people tell you to be quiet because a commercial is on, is upon us.
While the Super Bowl is expected to showcase great football on Sunday, when the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots face off, it will also feature the year’s “championship” of TV advertising, including spots promoting financial services.
This year Expensify, which claims to be “the world’s leading application for expense management, receipt scanning and business travel,” will run its first advertisement during the Super Bowl.
The advertisement is called “Expensify This” and features the rapper 2 Chainz and “Parks & Recreation” actor Adam Scott, with 2 Chainz dismissing the need for receipts because he uses
— you guessed it—Expensify.
Expensify also has a collaboration with 2 Chainz on“expensifying” art, such as a golden burger, a diamond football, and an ice car, which is featured in the commercial.
Another financial services company advertising during the Super Bowl is TurboTax, a popular software that helps people file their taxes. This is the company’s sixth consecutive year advertising during the big game.
Its advertisement this year will feature “RoboChild,” a robot child hybrid who asks its human father for a kale salad with chicken and guacamole, acknowledging guac is extra, and tagging on a “#LivingMyBestLife” for good measure.

Amazon, which maintains a significant payments business, will promote its Alexa virtual assistant product. Alexa could be called a fintech enabler, in that it facilitates some financial transactions. The Alexa ad features celebrities like Harrison Ford with a plotline centering on Alexa’s failures when it is used as, for instance, a toothbrush or dog-collar.

Bank of America, PayPal and Esurance are past financial services advertisers during the Super Bowl that are not participating this year. In fact, PayPal’s 2016 Super Bowl ad was one of the best that year.
As they say, that’s the way the football bounces.
