EXCLUSIVE—  Home ownership platform Unison is expanding to ten additional states, following strong origination growth and new marketing, engineering hires, the company announced today.

The expansion comes after the company (which allows customers more flexibility in choosing a home by “investing” in the house) expanded originations 1,000% in the first quarter of 2018, compared to this period in 2017, the company said. With its recent additions Unison is in 22 states plus Washington D.C., according to its CEO, Thomas Sponholtz. This which makes Unison’s programs accessible for investment in over 70% of US single family residences. Sponholtz told Bank Innovation in an email that the company plans “to continue our state expansions, a few per quarter, throughout 2018 to exceed 30 states by year-end.”

Further, Bill Walker, chief revenue officer for Unison, told Bank Innovation in an emailed statement:

Unison is always looking to expand into new states and markets. With our recent additions we are in 22 states plus Washington D.C. which makes Unison’s programs accessible for investment in over 70% of US single family residences.

We plan to continue our state expansions, a few per quarter, throughout 2018 to exceed 30 states by year-end.

These ten new states include Florida, Ohio, Minnesota, Nevada, Colorado, and North Carolina, among others, according to Unison, who will seek to keep expanding their service offerings and originations as the year progress, according to Walker.

Unison origination growth can be attributed to a continuing focus on the customer, according to Walker, who cited the company’s “Voice of the Customer” program, which incorporates customer feedback “direct” into Unison, Walker said.

Walker told Bank Innovation:

Widespread consumer demand combined with an aggressive growth marketing strategy and intense focus on the customer experience fueled our growth in Q1, and we expect our volume to increase rapidly throughout 2018.

The company’s expansion comes attached with new hires, also announced today, (Cari Jacobs, will serve as chief marketing officer, while Quintin Gomez will take on the role of head of engineering), who will be overseeing customer research and application development as Unison focuses on growth in 2018.

Jacobs will lead a team “focused on Unison’s brand promise, consumer research and content. These efforts will be supportive of our massive growth expectations in 2018 and beyond,” Sponholtz told Bank Innovation in an emailed statement.
