True, mobile payments are becoming increasingly popular as a form of P2C payment methods, but make no mistake – cards are not going anywhere anytime soon. At least, that’s according to RBR’s latest report.
According to RBR’s Global Payment Cards Data and Forecasts to 2022, report, the number of card-accepting merchant outlets rose by 7 million to 61 million in 2016. The report suggests that by 2022 that number will be 85 million. That’s a 40% increase in card-accepting merchants.

The major catalyst to this growth is attributed to developing regions where card acceptance is still not pervasive, but is gradually on path of becoming so.
The report, released last week, shows that regions like Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Easter Europe experienced double digit growth in the number card acceptance in 2016.
