Target is the latest retailer to open a mobile wallet service of its own, following in the steps of fellow chains Walmart and CVS.

Target announced yesterday that the mobile payment service, simply called “Wallet,” is an add-on to the Target app for both Apple and Android users. The service allows Target shoppers to pay via smartphone at the point-of-sale, as well as add in discounts and coupons to their order by scanning a barcode.

Shoppers can also link Target’s “REDcard” to the mobile wallet, as either a debit card that links to a customer’s bank account or as a credit card, offering 5% cash back on purchases.

Target’s mobile wallet follows the launch of digital wallets by several other retailers, notably Walmart, which has been  focusing more on its digital presence as it looks to compete with online e-commerce company Amazon.
