Google Wallet Card, the sad offspring of Google’s original mobile payments dreams, will shut down June 30, as Android Police reported on March 28. Emails have now gone out to Google Wallet cardholders.

The card came about in 2013 because Google was blocked from activating mobile payments via NFC by telecom companies anxious to launch their own mobile payments platform, Isis, later called Softcard, later purchased by … Google — and shut down a year ago today.

Google Wallet still exists in app form as a peer-to-peer payments vehicle. Android Pay, for use in-app and at the point of sale, is also alive and well. Here’s the email Google sent out today:
