Open Solutions Adds Billpay to its DNA Application Suite

Open Solutions DNAbillpayCore software provider Open Solutions announced a new product, DNAbillpay, last week at the BAI Retail Delivery conference in Washington, D. C.

DNAbillpay allows participating FIs to offer customers a billpay solution for PCs, tablets and smartphones. The DNA platform upon which this solution is built is a standout in the industry. Open Solutions customers can build their own apps tailored to their institution’s needs, and then offer it for sale in the DNAappstore.

This model of openness and collaboration and the resulting ecosystem of offerings is a big value-add for customers. Open Solutions views itself as a single-product shop, but that single product has many possible add-ons and customizations.

Core Business Leader Lizette Nigro described DNA as ”the only core platform with a store.” The DNAappstore launched in May 2011. (Jack Henry company Symitar also released an app store earlier this year.)

The DNA core platform is built on C Sharp code and a Microsoft .NET framework. It allows realtime transactions, transparent data encryption, and customization of the fields and functions of the database.

“What other industry uses 50-year-old software?” Nigro asked. “There are cores out there running PL/I, Programming Language One!”

Open Solutions has performed more than 500 core conversions and its business is evenly split between credit unions and banks, with a focus on community banks. It boasts a 60% market share in de novo banks. Core conversions take, on average, nine months, said John Messier, vice president of product development. Open Solutions is based in Glastonbury, Conn.
